The federal civil service of Nigeria for career progression. There are Thirty-Three (33) units covering all aspects of Nursing care and management of clients/patients including nursing specialists, supervised by most senior and experienced nurses as ‘Unit Managers.’. For administrative convenience, the department has the following organogram in place; the Head of Department as the overall overseer of the department, the ADNS Administration responsible for manpower and material development and management in the department, ADNS clinical responsible for all clinical activities and supervision of the hospital duty office, ADNS continuing education, responsible for conducting and coordinating all in-house continuing education programs and supervision of students on clinical postings and nurse interns, ADNS Research and statistics, responsible for keeping up to date statistics in the department in collaboration with all the unit managers, ADNS quality improvement, responsible for ensuring standard quality of care to clients (Patients) is maintained. The department also appoints some principal officers in the department as coordinators to oversee the activities of units/grouped under them for smooth supervision of these units and make periodical reports to the HOD. There are as well standing committees in the department put in place for smooth running of the department, these committees include disciplinary committee responsible for handling all disciplinary issues and reporting same to the HOD with appropriate recommendations after due investigations, continuing Education Committee responsible for organizing units and departmental clinical presentations to update staff on current trend in patients’ care. Other committees are staff welfare committee, research and statistics and quality improvement committee.
